Palmer Bowlus Flumes with Pipe Stubs
While the Palmer Bowlus was specifically designed to be used in-line with sewer pipes and conduits, the developers of the flume had originally envisioned the flumes being grouted in-line. Many times, however, it makes more sense to have a watertight connection directly from the flume the piping. For those applications, Openchannelflow offers pipes stubs molded to our Palmer Bowlus flumes.

The pipes stubs – usually the same size of the flume, although they can be smaller – are molded into a flat bulkhead that is then in turn chemically bonded to the flume.
Unlike Parshall flumes which require engineered end adapters to transition the flow from the round pipe to the rectangular cross-sectioned flume and then back, the U-shape of the Palmer Bowlus allows the flow to be directly piped into / out of the flume without the need for additional flow conditioning.
Watertight Connections
To make the pipe-to-pipe connection watertight, flexible Fernco couplings are used. These couplings are held in place by stainless steel hose clamps that fit into groves molded into the outer wall of the coupling.

For installations requiring extra connection strength and rigidity, shielded couplings are also available. A shielded coupling mounts a stainless steel ring round the outside of the flexible coupling.
