Weir Boxes for Confined Space Installations

While we frequently talk of the advantages that flumes have over weirs, weirs in general (and weir boxes in particular) can be well suited to measuring flows on unusual pipe configurations. Without considerable flow conditioning, flumes require the approaching flow to be centered down the longitudinal axis of the flume. Pipes that come in off center, or applications where multiple pipes are being monitoring at a single point present problems for most flumes.

Luckily, each Openchannelflow weir box has a tranquilizing section built into inlet. The section – either by itself or with minimal modification – can condition a wide variety of flow conditions. Normally equipped with an underflow baffle, the tranquilizing section can have multiple over / under flow baffles, energy absorbers, and other flow conditioning devices. This allows OCF weir boxes to be configured with pipes entering from the side or bottom, by themselves or along with other pipes, and at different elevations.

For applications were multiple flow streams need to be measured at a single site, flows can be combined in the tranquilizing section or individual flow cells can provided for each flow stream.
