Weir Channels
Weir Channels are a drop-in-place solution made specifically to address challenges with measuring flows in creeks, small streams, and canals.
You won’t find anything like the Openchannelflow Weir Channel anywhere else. They combine the function of a Weir Box with the access of a pre-engineered channel. The result is accurate for measuring flow, convenient, customizable, easy to use, and safe for operators.
You can customize for your specific needs with (6) different channel sizes and interchangeable weir plates in V-notch and Cipolletti styles.
Installing a Weir Channel is easy. They can be configured for direct installation using earth anchors or they can be pre-mounted to a concrete base offsite and then moved onsite as a single unit.
Like any device integrating a weir, Weirs Channels are simple but do require ongoing maintenance to ensure accurate readings. Additionally, site selection with the right balance of flow and elevation is key for a successful installation.
Weir Channels are available in:
- Aluminum, a lightweight choice that’s easy to move and inexpensive to transport.
- Fiberglass channel with a stainless steel Weir Plate for measuring treated industrial flows.
- Stainless steel, the most corrosion and abrasion resistant — but also the heaviest and most expensive.
Make the most of Weir Channels with accessories including:
- Flow Meter Mounts ensure sensors are in the right point of measurement within the Weir Channel.
- Flow Conditioning options like tranquilizing racks and energy absorbers to help slow a flow.
- Wing Walls that attach to the channel and help direct flow in or out.
- Operator Safety Options like platforms, recessed grating, and hand rails.
