Flume Metering Manholes
A type of Packaged Metering Manhole (PMM), Flume Metering Manholes integrate an open channel flume to make it safe and convenient to measure underground pipe flows. With factory integration, flumes are installed correctly with properly formed inlet and outlet transitions.
A watertight and corrosion-resistant package, Flume Metering Manhole components include:
- High-strength fiberglass manhole tube
- Integrated flume
- Integrated cover
- Watertight base
- Fiberglass / stainless steel access ladder
- Wiring / tubing coupler
- Inlet / outlet piping
Available in diameters from 48- to 96-inches [1.22 to 2.44 m], depths up to 35-feet [10.7 m], and in (4) different top styles, Flume Metering Manholes are highly customizable.
Installation of Flume Metering Manholes is as straightforward as dig it, drop it, done! With minimal downtime, Flume Metering Manholes are perfect for installation during plant shutdowns. Because Flume Metering Manholes are made with fiberglass, they are:
- Corrosion resistant and made from a single, watertight piece.
- Flexible enough to factory integrate a range of flume styles and sizes.
- Factory integration / single-source responsibility.
- Less expensive over time because there’s no need for regular inspection, maintenance, or repair to keep everything in good working condition.
- Parshall Flume
- 1- to 36-inches
- Palmer Bowlus Flume

- Trapezoidal Flume
- Small to 2-inch 45º SRCRC
- HS / H / HL Flume
- 0.4-feet HS to 2.5-feet H
- Montana Flume
- 1- to 6-inches
- Cutthroat Flume
- 18-inches by 1-inch to 9-feet by 24-inches
Depending on the depth of a manhole, seeing inside can be a challenge. All Openchannelflow PMM tubes, including those for Flume Metering Manholes, are smooth inside and a light tan color to help maximize visibility. The interior is without pigment / gel coat, which allows for visual inspection and quality control of the tube during and after production while meeting ASTM D3753.
While most Flume Metering Manholes ship as a single piece, those of unusual depth or that integrate large measurement devices might ship in two or more pieces.
Suit your site needs by selecting from a variety of top styles:
- Domed Fiberglass Tops, the most popular choice, is commonly used for grassy non-traffic areas.
- Aluminum Covers, which are typically used for pedestrian walkways and non-traffic or low-profile installations.
- H-20 Traffic Reducers for areas with traffic, like parking lots, loading docks, and warehouse floors.
- Open Tops for sites already covered with a shelter or other access-restriction measures.
Make the most of Flume Metering Manholes with a variety of accessories that help with air circulation, depth adjustments, equipment or mounting panels, storage, work surfaces, and more.
