Palmer Bowlus
Palmer Bowlus Flumes are a low cost and popular choice to measure sanitary sewage and wastewater because they readily adapt to in-line piping.
If you have a sanitary sewage or wastewater flow to measure, the Palmer Bowlus Flume is a great option. Unlike other flumes, Palmer Bowlus Flumes were specifically designed to work in line with existing conduits and pipes to measure sanitary sewage and wastewater flows. They do a fantastic job adapting to in-line piping and pass solids well.
In-line adaptability and solids passage are common requirements for applications like industrial pretreatment, sewage treatment plants or cross jurisdictions, well-pumping tests, and spring discharges. Palmer Bowlus Flumes are an excellent choice for these types of applications.
While Parshall Flumes adhere to an industry-wide dimensional standard, Palmer Bowlus Flumes are proprietary to each manufacturer. While most manufacturers have standardized a specific design, there can be differences among manufacturers.
The more common Parshall Flume has a wider operating range than the Palmer Bowlus Flume, which requires a higher minimum flow rate. If the flow rate is too low, solids can drop out upstream of the Palmer Bowlus Flume’s throat ramp.
Unlike most other flume types where the depth measurement is taken to the floor of the flume, Palmer Bowlus Flumes take measurements above the flume floor. The zero elevation is at the height of (but not at) the throat ramp.
Palmer Bowlus Flumes are defined by both size and style. With a slightly smaller range of sizes than Parshall Flumes, Openchannelflow Palmer Bowlus Flumes are available in (15) sizes, from 4- to 48-inches. In addition to various sizes, there are (4) distinct styles of Palmer Bowlus Flume. The specific needs of your application can determine which is the best fit. Contact us to understand which might work best for you.
Palmer Bowlus Flumes are available in:
- Fiberglass, which is resistant to corrosion, competitively priced, and the best choice for sewage flows.
- Stainless steel, which is very strong, resistant to corrosion, and expensive.
- HDPE, which has an extremely specific chemical resistance and can be more expensive than stainless steel.
Make the most of Palmer Bowlus Flumes with accessories including:
- Bulkheads, to attach the flumes to pipe stubs, flanges, or caulking collars.
- Above Ground Enclosures that factory integrate flumes and keep them protected in above ground installations.
- Packaged Metering Manholes that combine with the flume for a complete, integrated structure for operators to measure and sample flows.
- Flow Meter Mounts ensure sensors are in the right point of measurement within the flume, plus are easy for operators to use and adjust.
