Extra Large Trapezoidal Flume Measuring Turbulent Flow

Extra Large Trapezoidal Flume Measuring Turbulent Flow

Description

An Extra Large Trapezoidal Flume trying to measure turbulent flow.  The flume has been installed so the flow from the creek spills down into it.

Under low flows, the owner indicates that the readings from the flume closely match their spot measurements. However, at higher flows, the flume readings and spot readings diverge as the flow increases.

Elevating the flume so that flow doesn't cascade down into it eliminated the problem.

On the side of the flume is a probe well for a pressure transducer to measure and recorder the level (and thus flow) in the flume.

The orange surface staining on the flume is from iron leaching out of the water.
